Why Dog Clothes Are Important

When most people think of dog clothes, they think of cute Chihuahuas wearing adorable and stylish dresses or outfits. While dog clothes do offer style and attractiveness, they are also important for a number of other reasons. Here, we'll take a look at some of those reasons and reveal when dog clothes are absolutely necessary.
Something not many people are aware of is that the use of dog clothes dates back to military use during the world wars. During this time, soldiers used dogs to carry ammunition, letters and other supplies strapped to their harness to various troops and stations. This resulted in fewer casualties and made it easier transport supplies.
Other early uses of dog clothes were by Eskimos other people indigenous to cold climates. When it's below freezing outside, it's vital to put some form of clothing on your dog to help protect their health and well-being. Just as we can suffer from hypothermia and frost-bite, so can dogs.
If you live in a cold climate area, you should always have a wardrobe on hand for your dog to wear. Even if it's just a sweater and jacket, you'll likely find yourself using it quite` often to help keep your dog warm during the cold. For places with a lot of snow, a weather-proof raincoat is essential to keep your dog protected from the freezing snow and rain.
Some small dogs are more susceptible to the cold weather than larger breeds. For instance, Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers are simply not adapted to live in cold weather, and as such, we must help keep them warm and safe with clothes. A simple sweatshirt can prove a valuable tool in achieving this.
An oftentimes overlooked item is dog shoes. Yes you heard me correctly, they make shoes for dogs. While most people will brush this item off as a unnecessary commodity, they are actually great for protecting your dogs delicate paws. When it's raining or snowing outside, the freezing, slippery ground can prove dangerous and harsh for a dogs paws. Simple booties and shoes can help protect their paws by providing a protective layer of comfortable material. If you decide on purchasing dog shoes, be sure to find ones that conform to your dogs paws and aren't stiff.
You don't have to limit yourself to dressing your dog up only in the winter. Many owners have cute t-shirts and other lightweight clothing for the warmer months. Spring is the perfect season for lightweight dog clothes. The mild temperatures allow them to wear different types of clothing without any discomfort.
