How To Rescue a Chihuahua

Are you wondering how to rescue a Chihuahua? Doing so allows you to gain a loyal new family member for life, and help a canine in need at the same time. In order to do so, though, you need to know where to look at and know the proper steps to follow.
Before you go jumping the boat with owning a new Chihuahua rescue, you should make sure you're fully capable of caring and providing for them. Unfortunately, every year hundreds of people and families change their minds about owning a Chihuahua and look to give them away. When this happens, it's not only heart-breaking for the owner, but it's mentally stressful on the Chihuahuas as well. Ask yourself, can you give food, water, shelter, and attention for the entire life of a Chihuahua? Many people seem to think of Chihuahuas as objects which they can trade or give away at any time they please. The fact is that Chihuahuas are loving animals who will reciprocate all the love you show them.
If you think you're up to the task of rescuing a Chihuahua, you can pay a breeder upwards of $500 or more, or you can look to rescue one that's in need. Right now, there are thousands of Chihuahuas sitting in shelters and rescues hoping someone will come and adopt them. If no one comes, they will remain caged and possibly even euthanized. Rescuing a Chihuahua allows you to essentially save their life and give them another shot at happiness.
The first place to look if you want to rescue a Chihuahua is local animal shelters in your area. You don't have to go around and physically visit each one, but instead just pick up the phone and give them call. Ask them if they have any Chihuahuas available and if so, are they up for adoption. If the animal shelter says they don't have any, ask them if they know anywhere that does. Oftentimes, they are networked with other shelters so they can help each other out.
Another option for finding a Chihuahua is at specialized Chihuahua rescues. As opposed to traditional animal shelters, these rescues focus only on the Chihuahua and breed. They have staff members who are well-trained in dealing with them and know how to train them obedience.
With so many families giving up their Chihuahuas, finding one to rescue shouldn't be difficult. However, if you still can't find one, you can look to social media sites like Facebook. Make a post, share it with your friends and see what they have to say. Even if they don't personally have any Chihuahuas, they may know someone who does.
