House Training A Puppy Early On

Puppies may be the cutest things on this earth! But they can also give you the worst headaches of all time. They love frolicking around the living room and they always bounce between your furniture. These things might still leave you making ooh and aahs for their cuteness. But everything changes when they decide to leave a little mess on your favorite carpet. You still continue to ooh and aah but the feeling may not be the same!
Yes! They may be the cutest and who could ever get mad at something so adorable? I know it's gonna be hard to train him when he does something wrong. It is definitely hard to reprimand them especially when they are fluffy and big eyed! But this is the right time to start laying down the rules of the game. It could be hard on you to train them looking all so sweet without being consistent with your laws, but it will get harder if you don't do it as soon as possible!
Dog training should be done right after you get your puppy. That would be anytime around 8 weeks old. Since most puppies are only allowed to be brought home around this age, there is no excuse but to train him at once!
Early Training
For any dog owner, the first thing to do is establish your training method. There are numerous options to choose from but here are just a few examples to help you.
First, is what they call crate training. In this method, you are going to teach your puppy to sleep comfortably in his own private lounge, so to say. You can start by using an open crate which you can, at first, load up with all his favorite toys and blankets. Just let the puppy go in on his own, eventually, he will claim it as his den.
Now, when using this method, make sure not to provide a big crate. If it is too big, he might make a mess there. Dogs, by nature, avoid spoiling their bedrooms. So, just make sure to have just enough space for his bedding inside his crate. This will teach him to hold it in while inside the crate and only do the deed once outside.
Second, we also have what we call pad training. Training pads are basically just like absorbent cloths that you can lay out on the floor where you want the deed to be done. You can also use newspaper to save money while training your dog. Just like in crate training, you will have to restrict his space as well by putting a gate of some sort. One important thing about this type of training is that you have to keep your eye on him like a hawk! You must be able to identify the signs that he is ready to go. Once he's ready, just move the pads to where he is.
It will only take a couple of times or so to teach him this. But again, the timing must be right to perfect it.
Sure, it will never always be that easy to train a new puppy. If you want to know more, just browse around the site. We also have articles on golden retriever training as well as beagle training!
