7 Steps for Cleaning Your Dogs Ears

It is very important to maintain your dog's health. One of the things you need to do if you have a dog that does not shed, like a Australian Labradoodle, or if you have a dog that is prone to ear infections, is to clean their ears.

We clean our canines ears every week unless they are more prone to infections then we clean them daily or every other day. We also trim the hair under the flap to help air flowing, a groomer can do this for you when they have their routine grooming appointment.

7 Steps to Cleaning Your Dogs Ears

Items you will need to clean your dogs ears:

a cotton ball
q-tips
tweezers
q-tip on a wood stick
a bowl
Apple Cider Vinegar
water

If there is any hair in your dogs ears, you will first want to remove any hair from ears by using a tweezers. Finish this off by placing a long q-tip with a wood handle inside their ear and simply twist, the hair will be attracted to it and as you spin it will spin around the handle. Then give a slight tug and the hair will come out on the q-tip. This does not hurt a dog.

If there is hair on the dogs ear flap, remove the hair so you see pink. This helps the air to circulate and reduces the chance of ear infections. You will do this by using your fingers or a tweezers and simply pull the hair out.

Now, take a q-tip and clean the inside of the dogs ear. If they are still dirty, continue until the q-tip comes out clean. A veterinarian or groomer can show you how to do all of these steps properly if you are concerned you are hurting your dog.

Mix 50/50 water and Apple Cider Vinegar into a small bowl.

Dip the cotton ball into the mixture.

Rub it around inside the dogs ear so that everything inside the dogs ears has been dampened with the mixture. Simply remove the cotton ball and you are finished. Apple Cider Vinegar is a drying agent so it will dry up anything that is moist inside your dog's ear.

We also strongly recommend that if your dog has ear flaps, like our Australian Labradoodles, your groomer shave the hair under the ear flap to allow air to circulate and help reduce ear infections.

At Ashford Manor Labradoodles, we breed the Australian Labradoodle. They are a fantastic breed who is allergy and asthma friendly. Because of this they do not shed and need hair removed out of their ears.

We spend time each week cleaning out each dogs ears. We play with our puppies ears to get them used to cleaning in the future. Our dogs are less prone to ear infections because we clean them with Apple Cider Vinegar which is a drying agent.

Ashford Manor Labradoodles is a responsible breeder of the Australian Labradoodle. We specialize in mini red Labradoodles. This is a remarkable hybrid breed of dog also called a designer dog.
